DISPATCH is an emergency management and response blog from the Crisis Academy. Just like at the Crisis Academy, our goal with DISPATCH is to publish interesting and informative content that helps emergency management and response professionals become exceptional.

Before you submit a pitch, please read the guidelines below carefully. We endeavour to respond to every pitch. If you haven’t heard from us within ten working days, please feel free to send us a friendly reminder.

Who can contribute to the DISPATCH blog?

We welcome posts from those working in the emergency management and response field, whether academics or practitioners. Your written English should be very good, and we reserve the right to edit any submissions.

What kind of content does DISPATCH publish?

We publish content that is useful; it needs to take a person from A to B and make them feel good when they get there. Our content serves a purpose. ‘How to’ articles, best practice guides, case studies, well-researched longreads, and training information are all warmly received. Any claims should be backed up by data or research, and illustrations included where appropriate.

What topics do you typically cover on the DISPATCH blog?

We cover topics relating to the whole emergency mitigation, preparedness, response, and recovery spectrum. Some popular topics in this area include:

How long should posts be?

Our typical blog post is in the 1,000 to 2,000-word range, but we also consider shorter pieces of at least 500 words.

Are posts exclusive to DISPATCH?

Most blogs prefer that the content you submit is exclusive to its platform, but we understand that might be too restrictive for some contributors. As such, we do accept submissions that have been posted elsewhere but you must (a) check that the original publisher’s exclusivity guidelines permit you to republish and (b) inform us about the previous publication by sending us the name and date of the publication, as well as the URL (if applicable). If your post has been published on DISPATCH originally and you wish to post elsewhere, we are happy for you to do so as long as you include a link to the page where it was originally published on DISPATCH. This is good etiquette in the online publishing world, and we would appreciate your cooperation. We reserve the right not to publish submissions that have been posted elsewhere, or to remove publications that have been posted elsewhere after appearing on DISPATCH.
